Writing for the Screen (ep.1) #2G1S

#2G1S-7.png

Hi boys and girls. I’ll post the actual shooting scripts from the show, after the episodes are posted. This is what I had to work with when we drove out into town and started shooting guerrilla style.

Episode 1 is streaming now, and you can compare it to the script if you like. Some shots are required, as they convey information to the viewer visually. Those largely didn’t change. The dialogue, however, was up to the actors. Johann started grabbing lines from the episode 3 version, a completely different reality, a completely different character than what we had worked out. In editing I had to pick and choose what to work with, and you’ll see they had a great interaction on the bridge that wasn’t in the script and was ad-libbed.

As director, I just let them work it out and looked for that spark of chemistry. As long as he was pursuing her, and she was hellbent on avoiding him, then we had the correct tone.

Most of the episode is pretty much what’s on the page, but I did cut a couple of shots. I also added a drunk cam with several POV clips that were shot at 12 frames per second frame rate and long shutter speeds to blur and move like a sloshed girl.

She heads inside.

…Angie …Hey! …Stop!

The door lets in a flood of light in the background.

ANGIE

Get away from me!

James jolts to attention.

7B. ANGIE’S POV:

Closer, as he stiffens up and freezes. Blood pours from his mouth. Trying to reach behind his back, he falls backward out of frame. The doorway is suddenly filled by CARRIE, holding a big cooking knife.
