“I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh.”
“This my first read by Joe Giambrone, and it didn’t disappoint. I laughed, cringed, and overall found it a fast and enjoyable read.
Charleston and Gary have been best friends since being kids, both growing up with the same dream of being a top-notch stand up comedian. After Gary steals a joke from Charleston’s lineup, the two have a falling out. Between jokes gone awry and vengeful videos online, the two try to outdo each other by making the other look like a damn fool.
I found this book to be really funny. The bits of stand up in the book were funny and really pushed the limit. I loved how Giambrone highlighted the high sensitivity of America also. It really gives you an insight to how stand up goes, and it’s rather enjoyable. The first couple of chapters put me off slightly, because I had zero clue as to what was going on, but once you get into the story it all becomes clear. I loved Gary and Charleston, and I think they would be great to see in a small, dingy bar.
I have only been to a comedy club once, and the material in this book was of higher caliber than what I saw. I love how Giambrone wrote for three different stand up comedians in this book, and managed to give them all their own niche within that. They all stood out as individuals on the stage, and I feel like that’s hard to do. Especially since as a writer you have your own niche in comedy. To spread that over three characters to make them all sound different on stage is impressive.
I’m so happy this book fell into my hands. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh. You won’t be disappointed.”
