Intended to see this weeks ago, and I’m glad I made it. What a great movie and what a great band. I had the Queen Greatest Hits cassette since the mid-80s. Never knew which order the songs were created in. The film was done so well that I forgot it actually wasn’t Freddie Mercury. Rami Malek should get an Oscar nod. His performance is almost perfect, particularly on stage.
They went big, and it’s been an exceptional year for music movies. Lady Gaga also deserves an Oscar. What a night that would be.
Bohemian Rhapsody is a biopic with fantastic scale and some intense scenes. Imperfect, you can tell some of the scenes are truncated versions, not the reality. Such is cinema. But, following Freddie through his career is spellbinding.
“He inhabited Freddie to the point where we even started to think of him as Freddie. Really remarkable.”
–Brian May
Long gaps in the years leave some mystique. It doesn’t attempt to cover everything. The Live Aid performance receives special attention and was a legendary triumph. Each year there are a handful of must-see big screen films, and this is one of them.
